
Former Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Dr Muiz Banire (SAN), recently addressed technocrats in public service, emphasizing the importance of their interaction with the legal community to navigate the complexities of politics in the country.
He delivered a lecture titled “Navigating the Delicate Balance Between Politics, Law, Media Pressure and Public Perception; The Burden of a Nigerian Technocrat in Public Office” organized by the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), Lagos chapter.
Banire highlighted various challenges that burden technocrats in public offices, such as due process, administrative bottlenecks, cultural and religious considerations, public perception, legislative interference, and media pressure. He also pointed out the precarious situation of in-house technocrats, emphasizing the need for vigilance and ethical conduct.
The Chairman of the occasion, George Etomi, stressed the importance of a strong and vibrant media and judiciary for the thriving of democracy.
He noted the low level of patriotism in Nigeria and emphasized the role of Nigerians in building the country.
Human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) was honoured with an Award of Excellence for his outstanding contributions to legal practice, media freedom, and human rights enforcement in Nigeria, while journalists Joseph Jibueze and Joseph Onyekwere were also recognized for their contributions to the media profession and the association.
