The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ademola Adeleke, as winner of the Osun governorship election.
The apex court upheld the judgment delivered by the Appeal Court which affirmed that the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reflected what transpired during the poll across the state.
INEC had declared that Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 403,371 votes to defeat then-incumbent, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress who got 375,027 votes.
But Oyetola and the APC rejected the result of the poll and headed for the tribunal.
In its January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal annulled Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.
Speaking shortly after the apex court affirms his victory as the duly elected governor, Adeleke said the will of God has survived the anti-masses plot of evil forces.
Adeleke pledged to remain focused on delivering good governance to the people of Osun state, calling on stakeholders to join hands with his administration to move the state forward.
