Zion Prayer Movement Debunks Gunmen Attack Rumour on Evangelist Ebuka Obi

Warns Against Fake AI-Generated Video

Lagos, Nigeria – The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has dismissed as false a viral YouTube video claiming that its Spiritual Director, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, was attacked by gunmen during the commissioning of a free hospital in Aguleri, Anambra State.

In a statement issued by Evangelist Obi’s media adviser, Dan Aibangbe, the ministry described the video as a “wicked fabrication” designed to mislead the public and instil fear ahead of its upcoming annual prayer crusade.

According to Aibangbe, the hospital commissioning was a resounding success, attended by top government officials, dignitaries, and thousands of supporters, with no security breaches reported.

He clarified that Evangelist Obi and his entourage peacefully departed Aguleri around 4 p.m. and travelled safely to Owerri, Imo State—contradicting claims of an 8 p.m. attack in Anambra.

“Although the AI-generated video appeared to call for prayers for the Man of God, its contents were purely fabricated, aimed at discouraging massive attendance at the forthcoming crusade,” Aibangbe said.

He commended security agencies for ensuring an incident-free programme and praised Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo for creating an improved security environment that left no room for the alleged “Hollywood-type attack” depicted in the fake video.

The aide suggested the video may have been created either to drive traffic to a blogger’s channel or by mischief-makers intent on sowing fear among the faithful, particularly those travelling from the diaspora for the upcoming event.

He assured worshippers that the forthcoming prayer crusade in Ngor-Okpala, Imo State, would be held under strict security, with top-notch crowd control and personal protection measures in place.

“The enemy traditionally adopts fear and rumours as weapons of warfare, but they are already defeated and will be put to shame by the power of God,” Aibangbe declared.

He urged the public to disregard the fake video, attend the crusade without hesitation, and always verify information from credible sources before sharing. He further disclosed that YouTube has flagged the video for sanctions.
