Call for Applications for ICIR’s Countering AI-Enhanced Misinformation in Nigeria Project

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) is inviting applications from qualified journalists, social media influencers, and civic actors for the Countering AI-Enhanced Misinformation in Nigeria Project.

This initiative, supported by the US Embassy in Abuja, aims to reduce the dissemination and impact of AI-enhanced misinformation in Nigeria. The project will promote media literacy and responsible information sharing among citizens.

The ICIR is an independent, non-profit media organization dedicated to promoting good governance in Nigeria through robust investigative and data-driven reporting. For nearly a decade, the Centre has been building the capacity of journalists to engage in investigative reporting, thereby strengthening accountability and enhancing effective service delivery for the well-being of citizens, particularly at the sub-regional level.

The Countering AI-Enhanced Misinformation in Nigeria Project will train 120 journalists, social media influencers, and civic actors selected from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The application period opens on **Tuesday, December 3, 2024**, and closes on **Saturday, December 21, 2024**.

The project includes a two-day AI literacy workshop designed to equip participants with the skills needed to identify and counter AI-enhanced misinformation in Nigeria.

This initiative will foster quality and responsible information sharing across the country. Following the training, a Rapid Response Team will be formed to collaborate with the ICIR project team in addressing AI-enhanced misinformation throughout the duration of the project.

Additional components of the project will include in-depth research on the August 2024 End Bad Governance protest in Nigeria, a series of radio programs, and various media publications.

**Eligibility Criteria:**

– Candidates must be journalists, social media influencers, or civic actors with prior knowledge of the misinformation and disinformation landscape, along with its impacts on Nigeria.

– Candidates must reside in one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and be willing to travel for the training and participate in follow-up activities related to the project.

– Candidates **MUST** own a laptop; those without a laptop will not be admitted to the training. Additionally, candidates must have a smartphone and active social media accounts.

– Candidates should be willing to learn and adopt fact-checking technology in media reporting. Preference will be given to individuals with demonstrable knowledge of fact-checking.

– Interested candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply online.
