The Lagos State Judiciary has announced a lineup of activities to mark the commencement of the 2026/2027 New Legal Year, with a Thanksgiving Service and a Legal Year Summit scheduled to usher in the new legal calendar.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary, inviting the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, judicial officers, members of the Bar, the Bench, and the general public to participate in the events.
According to the statement, the New Legal Year activities will commence on Monday, September 21, 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service beginning at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held simultaneously at the Central Mosque, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos, and the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, reflecting the Judiciary’s commitment to inclusivity and interfaith harmony.
The celebration will continue on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, with the Legal Year Summit, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at The Jewel Aeida, Lekki, Lagos.
The summit is expected to attract judicial officers, legal practitioners, policymakers, academics, and other stakeholders in the justice sector to deliberate on contemporary issues affecting the administration of justice in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
The Lagos State Judiciary noted that the annual New Legal Year ceremony remains one of the most important events in the judicial calendar, serving as a platform to review the judiciary’s performance over the outgoing legal year, set priorities for the new judicial session, and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to the rule of law and effective justice delivery.
The statement added that further enquiries and confirmations of attendance should be directed to the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary.
