Attempt To Hijack Inmate Disrupt Court Activities

There was pandemonium at the Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square today when hoodlums laid siege to hijack an awaiting trial inmate from prison Arms guard.

The development caused panic, which made all the judges to end proceedings abruptly and immediately left the court, with their registrars and litigants also took to their heels.

The hoodlums demobilized two Green Maria vehicles that brought the Ikoyi inmates to court thereby preventing them from leaving the court.

According to an eye witness, the victim shot by the Arms guard was allegedly trying to interact with some of the inmates in the Green Maria and was warned severally but refused to desist.

Another eye witness who pleaded anonymity said that the warder shot the victim while he was struggling to disarm him.

It was also gathered that after the victim was shot on the leg, information got to the hoodlums, who swiftly came to barricade the entrance of the court and deflated the tyres of the Prison Green Maria.

A woman who also witnessed the incident stated that the victim who was shot had mental issues, adding that a senior prison warder, tried to prevent the warder that shot the victim.

It was also learnt that Kirikiri prison warders and the inmates immediately left after the incident and the victim was rushed to the hospital but the hoodlums who laid siege have insisted that their counterparts from Ikoyi prison won’t leave the court.

However, policemen from Police Headquarters in Kamsalem, Obalende, were drafted to the court to bring back normalcy.
