Court Orders Accelerated Hearing of Osinachi’s Homicide Trial

A Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court sitting in Wuse, has fixed sixteenth of this month for the commencement of trial of Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi.

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme who gave the date, also said that the matter would be given an accelerated hearing.

Osinachi, who was popularly known for her song “Ekwueme” alleged died on April 8, as a result of battered by her husband, Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu was arrested by the Nigeria Police following widespread allegations by their children, family and colleagues that he subjected her to domestic violence.

The office of the Attorney General of the Federation arraigned the husband today on 23- count charge bordering on domestic violence and culpable homicide.

According to the charge, the crime he allegedly committed contravenes Sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, (ACJA) 2015, Section 221 of the Penal Code and the Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Act (VAPP) 2015.

He however pleaded not guilty to all the count charge.

Subsequently, the judge ordered that he should be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Facility pending the hearing and determination of the homicide suit.

The charge read in part: “That you Peter Nwachukwu, 56, male, on the April 8 at Aco Estate, opposite Police Station, Lugbe, Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this court, did commit an offence to with: culpable homicide punishable with death in that you caused the death of Osinachi N.
