
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought two agents, Aminu Shehu and Martha Dauda Hassan before Justice A. Muazu of the Bauchi State High Court in Bauchi over land fraud.
On July 29, 2024, the duo was charged with three counts of criminal conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence amounting to Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.
One of the charges states that Aminu Shehu and Martha Dauda Hassan, in October 2022 in Bauchi, conspired to induce Danlami Inuwa into delivering the sum of N950,000 as payment for a land space located at Urban Market Bauchi Kasuwan Waya, into the account of Martha Dauda Hassan.
This act is in violation of Section 96 and punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
Another count explains that in October 2022, the defendants obtained Nine Hundred Fifty Thousand Naira from Danlami Inuwa by false pretence as payment for a land space located at Urban Market Bauchi, and deposited the money into the account of Martha Dauda Hassan in Union Bank.
This constitutes an offence under Section 1(1)(b) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences.
The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges and were each granted bail in the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira, along with two sureties, each of whom must own a landed property in Bauchi State. The case has been adjourned to 14-16 October 2024 for trial.
