The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has proceeded to implement the order of a Federal High Court, Lagos, which gave directives that properties belonging to the former governor of Abia State, and the Chief Whip of the National Assembly, Orji Kalu be forfeited to Federal Government.
The court gave the order in a judgement of about eight billion naira money laundering suit filed by the anti graft agency against the Convict, Kalu.
Last week, Kalu, a senator representing Abia North, was sentenced to twelve years in prison for fraud.
Justice Muhammed Idris ordered that Kalu’s company, Slok Nigeria Limited, be wound up.
In a statement signed by EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, the marking is to ensure that the properties are not dissipated.
Part of the property marked for seizure including the head office of The SUN newspaper in Lagos.
In a swift reaction, Management of The Sun Newspaper said that Sun Publishing Limited is a corporate limited liability company and its shares are owned by various individuals distinct from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Therefore, the recent Judgment against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu should not be used to disturb the operations of the company and the proprietary rights of its innocent shareholders until the matters are dispensed with at the Supreme Court.
