Electoral Dispute: Gombe State Governor Muhammad Yahaya Knows Fate on Friday

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has set the date for judgment to be on Friday, January 19, regarding the dispute over the last governorship election in Gombe state.

The appeal was made by Jibrin Barde, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the party, who are seeking to nullify the election of Governor Muhammad Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, announced the judgment date after lawyers to parties adopted their written briefs on Thursday morning.

The court also dismissed the appeal of the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, after his lawyer, Herbert Nwoye, withdrew it upon being told that his appeal was a mere waste of the court’s time.

The court also heard the appeal of the candidate of the PDP in Kaduna state, Mohammed Isa, who is seeking to nullify the election of Governor Uba Sani of the APC and reserved judgment until a date to be communicated to parties.
