
The Federal Government has commenced the trial of suspected terrorists facing terrorism-related charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The proceedings, previously held in Kainji, Niger State, were relocated to Abuja as part of efforts to enhance the prosecution of terrorism cases. Several judges, including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman and Akpan Ekerete, have been assigned to handle the trials.
At the hearing before Justice Nyako, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), led the Federal Government’s legal team in prosecuting the suspects.
On the defence side, the Director General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar, represented about 20 defendants standing trial.
Those listed in the charge include Hamat Modu, Isah Ali, Awal Bello, Shehu Bukar, Alhaji Kulle, Mohammed Abacha Hassan, Aminami Mallum, Tasiu Yakubu and Abdullahi Ali, among others.
