A Lagos High Court had ordered that the Chairman of Confidence Cargo, Freight Forwarder, Mr Dada Aigbe be committed to prison for contempt.
Justice Akintunde Savage gave the order on March 11, 2024, and directed that Aigbe should be imprisoned for one month until he purges himself of the contempt.
The judge’s order was based on forms 48 and 49 contempt proceedings filed against Aigbe.
The claimant, HRM Oba Shakirudeen Adeshina Kuti, had filed the suit against the Osolo of Osolo, HRM Oba Agbabiaka Kabir Orisedeko Elemo and the Baale Mafoluku Ajao Estate, Chief Hussam Raheem Shekoni Elemo as the first and second defendants, respectively.
To effect the court order, the Deputy Sheriff of the High Court had taken a “Request for Police Assistance” form dated March 18, 2024, to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, and the form was received on the same date. The Sheriff had stated in the form that police would be providing constables to accompany the Sheriff to execute the warrant.

However, Aigbe was arrested by the Nigeria Police at the NAHCO Airport but was later released by the officer in charge of Tactical Squad, SP Ugowe Joel, contrary to the court order.
When Officer Joel was contacted to confirm the controversy surrounding his release, he directed the reporter to come to the Police Command as the issue was not suitable for phone conversation.
However, when the reporter got to the command, Officer Joel was in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Fayoade Adegoke, for over three hours and did not show up.
As of the time of this report, Aigbe was still at work in NAHCO Airport Road despite the court order.
The Lagos Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Correctional Facility, Rotimi Oladokun, explained that if the police had brought the suspect in line with the order of the court, it would have been documented in their office.
He added that he would check the office report to confirm. However, after three days, he was unable to confirm if Dada Aigbe had been detained in any correctional facility in Lagos State.
