Man Sentenced to Sweep Court as Punishment for Stealing

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered a 23-year-old man, Rabiu Gambo, to sweep the court premises for 40 days for stealing a wallet.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel sentenced Gambo after he pleaded guilty to the theft.

Emmanuel noted that the court was lenient with Gambo because he did not waste the judge’s time by admitting his guilt.

He cautioned Gambo to refrain from committing any further crimes after completing his punishment, stating that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.

During the proceedings, Prosecutor Insp. Chidi Leo informed the court that on December 27, Yusuf Mai-shago of Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, reported the incident to Malali Police Station for investigation.

Leo explained that Gambo had stolen the complainant’s wallet, which contained N50,000, two ATM cards, and other identification cards.

The prosecutor indicated that the offense violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
