The trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will resume today before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Mazi Kanu is being tried by the Federal Government on charges bordering on treasonable felony, terrorism, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.
Although he was granted bail on health grounds, Mazi Kanu jumped bail and was re-arrested on the 29th of last month by security agents.
Following his re-arrest and trial in court last month, Justice Binta Nyako granted the request of the prosecution counsel that Mazi Kanu be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Justice Nyako equally granted an accelerated hearing in the case and rescheduled the trial earlier fixed for October 20 to July 26 and 27.
As at the close of work on Friday, the court’s management was reported to be working closely with relevant security agencies to avert possible security breach in view of the large turnout of IPOB followers and other spectators often witnessed each time his case came up.
Although all judicial correspondents were issued special identity cards for the coverage, only ten journalists were approved by the DSS to witness the proceedings.
Some security operatives, including armed police men with their official vehicles were sighted around the court premises on Sunday evening possibly to secure the court ahead of today’s proceedings.
