National Judicial Council Recommends Judges for Appointment

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has recommended 33 members of the Bench for various judicial appointments across the country.

NJC made this known in a statement by its Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye.

Mr. Oye stated that all the recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by their respective State Governors and confirmation by the respective State House of Assembly.

The statement said the NJC under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, at its meeting held Tuesday and Wednesday, considered the list of candidates presented by its interview committee after scrutiny.

Mr. Oye said the council, at the meeting resolved to recommend to the governors of Anambra, Kebbi, Cross River, Zamfara, Ogun, Osun, Rivers, Imo, Sokoto, Ekiti and Niger states, 33 successful candidates for appointment as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers in Nigeria.

The council, said three of the nominees were for Chief Judges of three states and Grand Khadis of Sharia Court of Appeal of three other states.

The rest comprised recommendations for 26 judicial officers for States High Court and one Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal.

The nominees included Justice Onochie Anyachebelu recommended as Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Mohammed Ambursa, as Chief Judge of Kebbi State and Justice Akon Ikpeme as Chief Judge of Cross River State.

They also include Khadi Umaru M. Gusau recommended as Grand Khadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Zamfara State, Justice Mobolaji A. Ojo as President Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State, and Justice Foluke Awolalu as President, Court of Appeal Ogun State.

Imo State
1. Onyeka V. Ifeanyichukwu
2. Leweanya Kechinyere
3. Victoria C. Isiguzo
4. Vivian O. Ekezie
5. Eze N. Eke
6. Ihuoma G. Chukwunyere
7. Ibeawuchi E. Chinyere

Sokoto State
1. Aminu Garba Sifawa
2. Mohammed Mohammed
3. Raliya Uthman Muhammad

Ekiti State
1. Obafemi Fasanmi

Niger State
1. Salisu Alhassan Majidadi
2. Binta Bawa
3. Danladi Ahmad

While it recommended Bello Jega as a Kadi of Kebbi State Sharia Court of Appeal, it recommended Amadi Ericonda as a judge of the Rivers State Customary Court of Appeal.

And lastly, NJC recommended Obichere Ijeoma Josephine and Nze Ifeanyi Tennyson as judges of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal.
