The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed claims circulating in a viral video alleging that its premium motor spirit (PMS) burns out faster than petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
In a statement on Saturday, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, described the comparison as misleading, baseless, and lacking scientific credibility.
The viral video featured a content creator who claimed he purchased petrol from both an MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, and an NNPCL station in Ojodu Berger at different prices—N925 and N945 per litre, respectively.
He then tested them in generators and reported that the one fueled by NNPCL’s petrol stopped after 17 minutes, while the Dangote-sourced petrol ran for 33 minutes.
NNPCL, however, countered the claim, stating that such an experiment does not meet scientific or industry standards for fuel quality testing. More importantly, it noted that a substantial portion of the fuel sold at the very NNPCL station in question was sourced from the Dangote Refinery itself raising questions about the validity of the content creator’s conclusions.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to supplying high-quality fuel that meets regulatory standards and urged consumers to rely on verified sources for accurate information regarding fuel performance.
