Street Urchins Arraigns For Unlawful Possession of Firearm

For alleged unlawful possession of firearm, three suspected street urchins, Ayomide Ayodele, Ojo Abowaba and Idris Isaika were arraigned yesterday before a Lagos Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.

The street urchins were arraigned on two count charges before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe by the state government.

The prosecution counsel, Ms Tolulope Esan informed the court that the defendants were found in illegal possession of firearm at Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ojodu Division with intent to commit arm robbery.

She said their offence was contrary to section 299 and 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

They however pleaded not guilty of the offence when the charge was read to them.

Following their plea of not guilty, the lawyer representing the defendant prayed the court to admit the second defendant to bail.

She told the court that he was granted bail by Justice Oyindamola Ogala when he was arraigned before the court.

She also prayed to the court to allow the other two defendants to continue to enjoy the bail earlier granted by the court.

Justice Abike-Fadipe said the court cannot stand on the existing bail terms that were not before the court, the judge directed the defendant lawyer to file Justice Ogala’s ruling.

She therefore directed the defendants to continue with the earlier bail granted them. She subsequently adjourned to February 1, 2023 for trial.
