FCCPC Drags MultiChoice Nigeria, CEO to Court Over Alleged Obstruction of Investigation

Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is set to arraign MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, along with its Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, and other top executives, for allegedly obstructing an ongoing investigation and failing to honour lawful summons issued by the Commission.

The charges are contained in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/197/2025, filed by the FCCPC’s legal team led by Barrister Nsitem Chizenum at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This legal action comes in the wake of a May 8, 2025, ruling by the same court, which dismissed MultiChoice Nigeria’s suit that sought judicial backing for its recent subscription price hikes on DStv and GOtv platforms across the country.

According to court filings, the Commission accuses the pay-TV giant of deliberately impeding regulatory oversight, in defiance of consumer protection laws and due process.

Further details of the charges and arraignment proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming days.
