Court to Deliver Judgment Today in EFCC’s N212bn Asset Forfeiture Case Against Ex-AGF Malami
The fate of 57 properties worth more than N212 billion allegedly linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, will be decided today, July 10, 2026, after a Federal High Court in Abuja shifted the date for its judgment in the EFCC’s final forfeiture suit.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik had initially slated judgment for July 6, following the adoption of final written addresses on May 26, but subsequently adjourned the matter to July 10.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is seeking the permanent forfeiture of the properties, located in Abuja, Kano, Kebbi and Kaduna, contending that they are proceeds of official corruption and abuse of office.
The anti-graft agency had earlier secured an interim forfeiture order over the assets.
Arguing for the commission, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, relied on a 47-paragraph affidavit and 46 exhibits, maintaining that Malami and the other respondents failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the acquisition of the properties.
However, counsel to Malami and the other respondents, Adedayo Adedeji, SAN, urged the court to dismiss the application and vacate the interim order, insisting that the former minister legitimately acquired the assets during his time in office under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He argued that the EFCC’s case rested on mere suspicion rather than credible evidence.
Justice Abdulmalik is expected to deliver the much-awaited judgment on July 10.
