Proceedings at the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Judicial Division, were on Tuesday stalled following the absence of four defendants charged with impersonation, stealing, obtaining by false pretence, conspiracy, and retention of criminal proceeds.
The defendants, Boma Snowhite Dokubo, Roseline Nkiruka Akanbi, and Chinedu Ukpabi Moses, were scheduled to be arraigned on a five-count charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
However, when the matter was called, none of the defendants was present in court.
Counsel to the EFCC, Ahmad Usman, informed the court that the agency had been unable to produce the defendants because they have allegedly absconded.
According to him, despite several efforts to secure their attendance, the defendants “remain at large and have continued to evade lawful arrest,” thereby frustrating their arraignment.
“Our position, My Lord, is that the defendants are fugitives. They have refused to appear before this Honourable Court to take their plea,” he said.

The prosecution urged the court to allow more time for the EFCC to take necessary steps to ensure their appearance.
Justice Ismail Ijelu noted the development and expressed concern over the defendants’ continued absence.
The court consequently adjourned the matter and fixed January 19, 2025, for arraignment, directing the prosecution to take appropriate steps to secure the attendance of the defendants.
The defendants are facing allegations of impersonating EFCC operatives and fraudulently obtaining N3.592 million from two victims under the pretence of conducting a legal operation.
They are also accused of stealing and retaining proceeds of crime, offences said to have been committed in November 2024 in Lagos.
The case is expected to resume in the new year, pending the arrest and production of the defendants in court.
