Court Remands Minor in Juvenile Center Over Rape Allegations

A Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered the remand of 14-year-old boy in a juvenile centre for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. O. A. Layinka, gave the order after the minor was docked before his court over the allegations.

Magistrate Layinka, who did not take the juvenile’s plea, directed the police to send the case file to the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the juvenile committed the offence on October 27 at Ogba, Lagos State.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Subsequently the court adjourned the case until Jan. 12, next year pending legal advice from the DPP’s office.
