Court Remands Two Armed Robbery Suspect in Prison

Two armed robbery suspects, Femi Olufade, and Abdulateef Umaru have been arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for allegedly committing armed robbery and possessing a double-barrel gun.

The Lagos State Government has preferred three counts against the defendants, including conspiracy, robbery, and armed robbery.

The State’s prosecuting counsel, Uju Nwogazi, informed the court that the defendants conspired to commit the crimes on April 13, 2021, along Owode Apapa Road Badagery area of Lagos State.

Nwogazi also stated that the defendants armed with a locally made pistol, robbed Babagida Abass of his motorcycle with number plate EKY 620 UM.

Furthermore, Nwogazi told Justice Oyindamola Ogala that the defendants were found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun with six cartridges. The prosecutor added that the defendants’ actions contravened Sections 411, 296, and 297 (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Following their not-guilty plea, the prosecutor requested an adjournment for the commencement of the trial.

Consequently, Justice Ogala remanded the defendants at the Nigerian Correctional Service and adjourned the case until February 19, 2024, for trial.
