
Nigeria’s USGEAA Pays Tribute to Late President Jimmy Carter’s Global Impact
Lagos, Nigeria — The United States Government Exchange Alumni Association (USGEAA), Lagos Chapter, has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the U.S. Consul General in Lagos and to the people of the United States on the passing of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States.
In a letter signed by the association’s president, Akeem Aponmade, Esq., the group highlighted President Carter’s legacy as a global leader dedicated to peace, human rights, and the betterment of humanity.
“President Carter will be remembered for his unblemished integrity, deep commitment to peace as a means of resolving conflicts, and unwavering devotion to tackling the world’s problems one at a time,” the letter stated.
The USGEAA emphasized Carter’s significant contributions through the Carter Center, which has improved the lives of millions in developing countries by combating diseases and promoting health and development.
His efforts in brokering peace between Israel and Egypt, as well as advancing human rights worldwide, were recognized as lasting examples of his impact on global governance.

The letter particularly highlighted President Carter’s relationship with Nigeria, noting that he was considered a friend by many Nigerians.
His commitment to justice, equity, and human dignity transcended national borders, earning him recognition as a global icon whose work has benefited all of humanity.
“As alumni of U.S. exchange programs, we recognize and deeply appreciate the principles that President Carter stood for—principles of equality, justice, and service to mankind,” Aponmade wrote.
The letter concluded with condolences to President Carter’s family, friends, and the American people, acknowledging the inspiration his life’s work provided to individuals around the world.
“May his memory continue to inspire us all to create a better world,” the USGEAA president stated.
President Jimmy Carter passed away after a rich and impactful life spanning 100 years, leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion that will continue to inspire generations.
