Former Ikeja NBA Chairman Yinka Farounbi Bow out of Sinful World

The former Chairman of the Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Yinka Farounbi, has passed away.

The announcement of his passing was made by the secretary of the branch, Mr Issa Adedokun Esq, who expressed his condolences on behalf of the branch.

Mr Farounbi was a highly respected and dedicated member of the legal profession, and his contributions to the legal profession will forever be remembered.

Details surrounding his death are not yet known, but it is believed that he had been ill for some time.

Mr Farounbi was a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws, LL.B in 1992. He also obtained his Barrister at Laws, B.L from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1993 and was subsequently called to the Bar the same year.

Later, he obtained his Master of Laws, LL.M. from the University of Lagos in 2006. He served the Ikeja Branch of the NBA in various capacities including Auditor, Assistant General Secretary, Financial Secretary, 1st Vice Chairman and Chairman between 2000 and 2016.

He was also a member of several committees within the branch, including the Human Rights Committee, Law Week Committee, Continuous Legal Education Committee, Pro Bono Committee, and Local Organising Committee of the 2017 AGC in Lagos.

He also served as the Alternate Chairman of the Sports Committee which successfully organised a football competition among the branches where trophies and cash prizes were won. Mr Farounbi was an attendee of the NBA NEC meetings and the AGC since 2000 either as a participant or Delegate.

He was a co-opted member of NEC in 2012 – 2014, a statutory member, as the Chairman of the Ikeja Branch, in 2014 – 2016 and the NEC Representative of the branch between 2016 – 2018. At the national level, he was a member of the Legislative Drafting Committee, 2012 – 2014, the Building Committee, 2016 – 2018 and the Legislative Drafting Committee, 2016 – 2018. He was among the NBA Delegates on the Legal Services Trade Mission to the Netherlands in 2016.
