The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, is set to transform the maritime economy with the Lagos Seafood Festival, an initiative aimed at celebrating and promoting the state’s aquatic heritage.
This event is designed to showcase Lagos’ maritime tourism and the commercial potential of its seafood industry to both local and international investors.
The festival, themed “Buy, Eat, Party,” will take place from April 24th to 26th, 2025, across three locations: Lagoon Restaurant in Victoria Island, Anuoluwapo Fish Market near Law School in Victoria Island, and Oluwo Fish Market in Epe.
Focusing on promoting aquaculture and culinary tourism, the festival aims to preserve Lagos’ rich seafood trade, drive sustainable business strategies, and reinforce the state’s position as a leading maritime hub in West Africa.

Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, described the initiative as a groundbreaking way to celebrate Lagos’ indigenous lifestyle while empowering seafood businesses and boosting the economy.
“This is more than just a celebration; it is an acknowledgment of our heritage and an opportunity for growth in the seafood industry of Lagos. We aim to empower seafood merchants, attract international buyers, and highlight Lagos’ maritime story.
“During the festival, attendees can look forward to a gourmet seafood experience featuring some of Lagos’ finest seafood dishes, cooking demonstrations and tastings led by renowned chefs, market tours, cultural exhibitions, workshops, and networking opportunities for businesses. This initiative is not only beneficial for seafood business owners but also contributes to the growth of the maritime economy,” Aregbe stated.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, which seeks to position Lagos as a global tourism and business hub while fostering economic growth in the seafood sector.
In summary, the Lagos Seafood Festival is a strategic campaign to promote and reassert Lagos as a destination of aquatic beauty, market the seafood industry, and support sustainable business practices.
