The Lagos State Government has denied reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It was reported that Sanwo-Olu filed a case in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to prevent the EFCC from arresting or prosecuting him at the end of his tenure.
However, the Lagos State Government refuted this claim in a statement released today by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN.
The statement reads: “We have been made aware of news circulating in certain media outlets titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu Sues EFCC Over Alleged Plan to Arrest, Prosecute Him After Tenure.’

We need to clarify that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has, at no time, sued or authorized any legal practitioner to file a suit on his behalf regarding this matter.
“It is also misleading to suggest that the Governor, who enjoys constitutional immunity and has almost three years remaining in office, would engage a lawyer in this context.
To the best of my knowledge, and following my inquiries, the EFCC is not investigating the Governor and has never invited him or threatened to arrest any member of his staff, whether domestic or otherwise.
“We are currently looking into how this case emerged without our knowledge.
For the record, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been exemplary in terms of service delivery and the prudent management of public resources.”
