
A Special Offences Court, Ikeja has fixed April 13 for possible arraignment of a businessman, Shobowale Oladipupo Moruf over issuance of about thirty one million naira Stanbic IBTC dud Cheque.
The Special Fraud Unit, SFU of the Nigeria Police instituted the criminal charges against the defendant and two companies, Channel of Blessing Venture and MurphyLad Ventures for allegedly by a way of fraud obtained a three thousand bags of Golden Penny and Mama Gold Flour from a Golden Penny Foods distributor.
According to Police counsel, Mr. Benedict Bennett, the defendants, Sobowale Oladipupo Moruf, Channel of Blessing Ventures and Murphylad Ventures and others at large, sometimes on or about the month of June and July 2018, at No. 9, Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of the Court, with the intent to defraud, conspired amongst themselves to obtain 3,000 bags of Golden Penny and Mama Gold flours valued at N30, 825,060 (Thirty Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand, Sixty Kobo) from Mrs Justina Uwaoma, a distributor of Golden Penny Foods.

He explained that the defendants falsely convinced the complainant that once they immediately sell the products would make payments into her account, which representation they knew to be false at the onset.
Mr. Bennett stated that their Offences, which is Obtaining Goods by False Pretences, is contrary to sections 8(a) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.
Also stealing which is contrary to sections 280 and punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The police counsel noted that all efforts by the complainant to retrieve her money proof abortive as the defendant in different instances issued a Stanbic IBTC dud Cheque for payment.

The copy of the charge information made available to Top Court News by the Prosecutor shows that the defendants would be arraigned on 14 counts charge which borders on the alleged Offences.
When the matter came up, the defendants didn’t show up for trial and was not represented by Counsel.
The development which make the Prosecutor, Mr. Benedict Bennett, to plea for an adjournment, while informing the presiding judge, Justice Sherifat Sholebo that the defendants have been served and a copy of the proof of service as been filed before the court.
Mr. Bennett stated that if the defendants failed to appear for trial at the next adjourned date, Police will be requesting for an order of the court to declare the defendant wanted
