
An Investigative Officer with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Oyewole Oluwagbenga Ayotunde has revealed to a Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, how Vitus Ukachukwu Ukaegbu forged documents and used fake international passport.
Ayotunde narrated this in his testimony before Justice Mojisola Dada in an ongoing trial of Vitus Ukaegbu over alleged forgery.
The anti-graft commission has arraigned Ukaegbu on three counts charge bordering on forgery.
Following his plea of not guilty to all the count charge, the court ordered the prosecution to open his trial.
Led-in- evidence by EFCC Counsel, Mr. Franklin Ofoma, the witness told the court that the defendant was handed over to the commission by an Army officer who suspect him to be an internet fraudster.
He informed the court that credibility test of the intelligence report was carried out in the course of investigation, he said that the commission found an international passport with number A03124615 in defendant possession.
The witness further told court that, “Upon inquiry into the passport, we discovered that it was another name that was on the passport which bear his face.
“The discovery led to the commission to write Nigeria Immigration Service for clarification. The feedback says that the passport was fake.”
The witness further told court that the response letter indicated that the passport number was issued to one Amaefuye Emma Ugo.
He said that the anti-graft also investigate the defendant account by writing to his bank domicile with Access and Zenith Bank to check his financial transactions.
The prosecution counsel, Ofoma therefore sought to tendered letters written by the commission to the Immigration Service, letter to the banks with the response. The court thereafter admitted it as as exhibits.
Justice Dada subsequently adjourned continuation of trial till October 8,2020.
