Nigeria Bar Association Swears In 32nd President Mazi Afam Ozigwe

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau, urged the incoming President, Mazi Afam Ozigwe, to introduce innovative measures that would drive the growth and development of the association.

Maikyau made these remarks at the inauguration of the 32nd President and the executive members in Lagos.

He emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing legal landscape by implementing modern strategies and reforms that would enhance the Bar’s relevance and impact.

According to him, the innovations could include leveraging technology for better service delivery, improving legal education and training, and fostering greater collaboration within the legal community.

Maikyau highlighted that such steps are crucial for ensuring that the NBA continues to play a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and advancing the interests of its members.

Yakubu Maikyau will be handing over to Mazi Afam Ozigwe, SAN, as the 32nd President of the Nigeria Bar Association.

In his inaugural speech, Mazi Ozigwe, SAN called for unity among members of the NBA, regardless of region, practice area, or background, while emphasizing the promotion of the welfare of lawyers, professional development, and continuous education under his leadership.

He also said there are plans to enhance the independence and integrity of the judiciary as his leadership will focus on the rule of law, justice, and the protection of human rights.

Mazi Afam Ozigwe affirmed his intention to promote the NBA’s role as a guardian of justice and advocate for the rule of law in Nigeria during his tenure. He noted that his executive would be committed to upholding ethical standards within the profession as they engage with the government, civil society, and international bodies to promote justice and the rule of law.

The new NBA President called on all members to work together towards the betterment of the profession and society, expressing confidence in the collective ability to achieve the set goals.
