A High Court in Osun State, located in Ilesa, has issued an order preventing Governor Ademola Adeleke and others from appointing Prince Clement Adesuyi, members of the Haastrup Family, or any other prince to take the vacant position of Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land.
Oba Gabriel Aromolaran passed away on September 11 after a 42-year reign.
Following this, various ruling families expressed their desire to ascend to the throne, as the kingmakers began preparing to evaluate candidates.
During this period, Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe issued a restriction against Governor Adeleke (the 20th respondent), his Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Commissioner for Justice, and others from appointing a new Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land.
Prince Debo Adeyemi, Prince Adeboye Adewale, and nine other members from the Ofokutu Royal Family requested the court to halt the appointment process, the nomination fee of N10 million from candidates, and related issues in a motion.
The court’s enrolment order stated: “An order of interim injunction is granted, preventing the 14th (Ilesa West Local Government), 20th (Governor of Osun State), 21st (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), and 22nd (Attorney General of Osun State) from proceeding with the presentation, nomination, selection, election, or installation of the 16th defendant (Prince Clement Adesuyi) or any other individual as Owa of Ijesa land or Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesa land, and from taking any further actions related to this matter, pending the hearing and resolution of the motion on notice.”
The judge has scheduled the case to resume on January 14 for a hearing on the application that is currently pending before the court.
