
A commercial driver, Ibrahim Yusuf, who was standing trial for alleged attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm to an official of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in Lagos, has been acquitted and discharged by Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja.
Ibrahim Yusuf, an indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, was charged to court on April 29, 2022, for the alleged attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm to a LASTMA officer on duty.
However, the court found that the prosecution failed to prove the two counts of the charge preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
The judge stated that the sole prosecution witness presented no documentary evidence, and there was no evidence of reporting the incident at the police station.

The incident in question occurred on February 12, 2022, in the Kosoko Ojodu area of Lagos when the accused was attempting to impound his vehicle.
It was reported that the defendant had obstructed vehicular movements along the route when the LASTMA official, along with other officers, attempted to impound his vehicle.
The defendant was accused of attacking the official with a knife, stabbing the victim in the head and neck, and then fleeing the scene.
Counsel to the State, A.O Azeez, presented the sole prosecution witness in the case, while Bidemi Ademola-Bello represented the defendant.
The judge ultimately found that the prosecution failed to establish all the elements of the offences and subsequently acquitted and discharged the defendant.
