Re-Arraignment of Convicted Kidnapper, Evans for Murder Postpone Due To Absence of Counsel

As Evans Opt for Plea Bargain Agreement

The re-arraignment of the convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, and his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, charged with murder and attempted kidnapping, was scheduled for Thursday but was postponed due to the absence of their first defence counsel.

The state lead counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, informed the court that the defendants had applied for a plea bargain option when the case was called for re-arraignment.

Justice Adenike Coker adjourned the case until June 13 for re-arraignment and directed Evans to ensure the availability of his counsel in court.

Evans and his co-defendant were to be re-arraigned on a five-count amended charge related to murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony (kidnapping) and attempt to murder.

However, the re-arraignment could not occur due to Evans’s counsel’s absence.

Sule informed the court that the defence counsel was aware of the re-arraignment and that the second defence counsel, Mr Nelson Onyejaka, was present in court. He also mentioned that the defendants had applied for a plea bargain, which the Attorney-General was considering.

Due to the absence of Evans’s first defence counsel, the case was adjourned, and a new date for the re-arraignment of the two defendants was requested.

Mr. Nelson Onyejaka, the second defendant’s defence counsel, arrived a few minutes after the case was called and announced his appearance for the second defendant, Emeka.
