Supreme Court Rules in Soludo Favour as APGA Governorship Candidate

The Supreme Court has affirmed a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Charles Soludo as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

The apex court also affirmed Chief Victor Oye as the national Chairman of the party.

Delivering judgment, a 5- man panel of Justices led by Justice Mary Odili dismissed the appeal filed by one Mr. Jude Okeke for lacking in merit and constituting an abuse of court process.

The apex court also awarded a sum of one million naira against Jude Okeke to be paid to APGA and and Victor Oye.

Justice Odili observed that the appellants, in a desperate bid to abuse the court, moved their cases from Anambra states to Imo State and later to Jigawa state where they eventually got judgment in their favour on the 31st of March, this year.

APGA has been plagued by internal crisis which led to two factions producing candidates for the Anambra governorship election – Prof. Soludo from the Oye’s National Working Committee and Michael Umeoji from Jude Okeke’s splinter group.

The Supreme Court also agreed that the election of officers into political offices was an internal affairs of respective parties which could not be challenged in court.
