
The alleged murderers of an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Yaba.
The LASTMA official, Ola Oyeshina, was attacked at Sifax-Iganmu area of Apapa on Friday last week allegedly by two drivers, Abdullahi Akerele, and Nurudeen Ogungbe.
Both defendants were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate, Kikelomo Ayeye, on a two-count charge of attack and murder of a law enforcement officer.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody pending an advise from the Department of Public Prosecution.
Before she ordered their remand, the Chief magistrate however inquired into the reason for the request and circumstance under which the defendant were arrested.
The second defendant, Ogungbe informed the court that he was an eye witness, he saw the LASTMA encounter with the uniform mopol on duty at the sport where he was killed.
He told court that, “Myself and the first defendant were passerby were arrested on raid. We were not involved. I promise to assist the police on the investigation. I am a member of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Apapa.”
She adjourned the case till January 28 for hearing.
