The National Association of Catholic Lawyers, Ibadan Archdiocese, will hold its New Legal Year Mass and thanksgiving on Sunday, October 11, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Oke-Padre, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Eucharistic celebration begins at 9 a.m., with the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin, as Chief Celebrant.
Chairman of the association, Michael Agbolade, and Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Dr. Patricia Ubiaza-Eze, said the event would also feature the association’s Annual General Meeting.
A public lecture titled, “Faith, Justice and National Cohesion: The Legal Profession as an Instrument of Peace,” will be delivered by a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, Mr. Akeem Agbaje.
The organisers said the programme would provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of the legal profession in promoting justice and national cohesion, especially as Nigeria approaches another general election.
New wigs will also be welcomed into the profession, while selected members will receive the St. Thomas More Award for their contributions to law and justice.
Expected guests include Catholic bishops from the Ecclesiastical Province of Ibadan and Hon. Justice Peter Ige, retired, Patron of NACL Ibadan and Chairman of its Board of Trustees.
