Domestic Staff, 2 Others Sentence To Life Imprisonment

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court, has sentenced a domestic staff, Genesis Ezebong, his brother Micheal and Ikade Moses, to life imprisonment for armed robbery.

The judge found the trio guilty of the offence of conspiracy and armed robbery brought against them by the state government.

While delivering the judgement, the judge held that prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt, the circumstantial evidence against the defendants.

Justice Taiwo upheld the testimony of the first prosecution witness who identified the convicts as his testimony corroborate other witnesses and the statement of defendants. The court also held that the recovery of some items stole by the defendants.

The prosecution counsel, Mrs Omowumi Bajulaye had informed the court that defendant commited the offence of conspiracy and armed robbery on January 13, 2019 at No 222 Ikorodu Road, Palm Groove, Lagos.

She said that the defendant while armed with cutlass, shovel and other dangerous weapons robbed one Daniel of one Compact Laptop, one Apple Laptop, Gold and costumes, Jewelries, Blackberry Phones, one Digital Camera, Soccer Shoes and two other phones belonging to one Akeredolu Titilope.

The convicts were arraigned on December 18, 2020 while  the trial commenced on January 11, 2022.

However, during trial, she called three witnesses and tender documents such as defendants statements which was admitted as  exhibits.

The witnesses who had testified  before the court includes Inspector
Okunade Olumuyiwa, Titilope Akeredolu and Investigative Police officer, Inspector Olawale Oni.

The witness had told court how the Akeredolu domestic staff conspired with others, armed with dangerous weapon, broke into his boss house to robbed with his gang after he had left to church, locked the security man as well as other occupants in the toilet.

Sunday after left to church.  that she went to church of Sunday morning when the security man (gateman) called her that the first defendant (Genesis Ezebong), his domestic staff went to her house with cutlass, hand broke into her apartment to rob.

He told court that the gateman narrated to him how that they were locked in the toilet, and
that defendants broke to her room at about 10:30 am.
