Hans & Rene Former Sales Rep, Wife, and Supervisor Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison For Stealing Employer’s N5m

A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Lagos, has sentenced a couple and one other individual to 18 months in prison, along with 200 hours of community service, for stealing five million naira from their employer, Hans and Rene.

The convicts, Warris Matti, 27; Adeyemi Olaiya, 32; and Anifat Matti, 25, were arraigned on three counts charge which borders on conspiracy, forgery, and stealing.

Magistrate Mrs A.O. Salawu handed down the sentence after several court sessions and the presentation of evidence.

She ordered that the sentence be served immediately and did not allow for any option of a fine.

Warris and Olaiya were both sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Anifat was sentenced to complete 200 hours of community service.

The case was first reported on March 26, 2024.

The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Oriabure, informed the court that the offences occurred on October 26, 2023, at No. 58 Clover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He detailed that Warris and Olaiya, who were employed as a sales representative and a supervisor at Hans and Rene, conspired to steal a total of five million Naira (approximately $12,000) from their employer.

Warris was accused of fraudulently directing customers to deposit payments directly into his wife’s Opay account, which he had linked to Hans and Rene.
