The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, has approved the 2025 Christmas vacation for the High Court of Lagos State pursuant to Order 49 Rules 4(c) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

According to the notice signed by Chief Registrar Mr. T. A. Elias and dated November 26, 2025, the vacation will run from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026, both dates inclusive.

The notice states that regular court sittings will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026, following the conclusion of the Christmas vacation period.

During the vacation, each judge will handle all urgent applications connected to any substantive case already assigned to them, while any fresh urgent application without an assigned substantive suit will be taken by the judge specifically designated to hear it.

The Christmas vacation is anchored on the provisions of Order 49 Rules 4 and 5 of the Lagos High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, which empower the Chief Judge to fix vacation periods and make arrangements for urgent business during such times.

Notwithstanding the general suspension of regular hearings, the notice clarifies that any cause or matter may still be heard by a judge during the vacation where the case is certified as urgent, provided that all conditions prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 are strictly observed and complied with.
