Court Sentence Internet Fraudsters Six Month Imprisonment

Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, has sentenced two persons charged with the offence of internet fraud and other related Offences to six months imprisonment.

The convicts , Emezue Onyedikachi Joseph and Ibrahim Abdulqadir Omotowo were arraigned by the EFCC on separate charges that borders on internet fraud,.

In the charge sheet Ibrahim Abdulqadir Omotowo ( Kate Williams) was said to have sometime in October, 2019, in Ilorin did cheat by personation when he pretended to be one Kate Williams a white female with gmail account katewilliams66421@gmail.com, and fraudulently deceived one Bernard Shannon an American citizen, to send $150.00 (one Hundred and Fifty Dollar ) to him through gift card after he made him believe he was a girl in love with him and that his action was contrary to section 321 of the penal Code and punishable under section 324 of the same penal Code.

The charge against Emezue Onyedikachi Joseph (Serah James) said sometime in in October, 2019, in Ilorin he also cheated by personation when he pretended to be one serah James a white female with gmail account serahjames1988@gmail.com, and fraudulently deceived one Sampson with phone number +1424001470 an Ameracan ciziten, to send $ 170:00 (One Hundred and Seventy Dollar) to him through gift card after he made him believe he was a girl in love with him and that the offence contravanes section 321 of the penal code and punishable under section 324 of the same penal code.

All the convicted persons pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Sessan Ola urged the Court to convict and sentence the defendants according to their plea bargain agreements.

Counsel to the accused persons, Oluwadamilola Obadimeji however pleaded with the Court to tamper Justice mercy adding that they are first term offenders.

Delivering verdict, Justice Abdulgafar said the evidence of prosecution witnesses were unchallenged and uncontradicted by the defendants.

He said the court found the accused persons guilty of the offence that has to do with internet fraud and sentence them accordingly.

Justice Abdulgafar said the jail term will commence from 25th of October 2019, when day they were arrested by the operatives.
