Drama in Court as Nnamdi Kanu Fires His Lawyers, Says He’ll Defend Himself

Detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed his entire legal team, including all Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) representing him in court.

Kanu, who is facing terrorism-related charges, told the court that he no longer wished to be represented by any lawyer and would personally conduct his own defence.

Following his declaration, the lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), and other members of the legal team formally announced their withdrawal from the case.

Addressing the court from the dock, Kanu questioned the jurisdiction of the court to continue hearing his trial, insisting that the proceedings were unlawful.

Further details on the court’s response and next steps in the high-profile trial are expected shortly.
