The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has arraigned two drugs trader, Emmanuel Ejidike, and Anayo Okoye, before a Federal High Court in Anambra State sitting at the state capital, Awka.
The defendants, based at the Onitsha drug market, were arraigned before Justice F. O. Riman on a five-count charge which borders on the sale, distribution, possession, and display of unregistered drugs.
They however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.
Thereafter, the defence counsel, Ndubisi Okechukwu, applied for their bail application, but the prosecuting counsel, Jumbo Washington, objected and demanded their remand in the correctional center.
But after listening to the counsels, the presiding judge granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5m each with a surety.
He said the surety must swear an affidavit of means and show evidence of three years of tax clearance.
The case was adjourned to July 5 for the hearing of Ejidike’s matter, while that of Okoye was adjourned to July 11 for his hearing.
