
The Nigeria Police has arraigned some suspected political thugs arrested by Soldiers at the border town of Itawure in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State in the eve of PDP primary before the State Chief Magistrate’s Court presiding in Ado-Ekiti.
The ninety eight suspects were brought before Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun on charges of threatening violence, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
According to the police prosecutor, Mr. Samson Osubu said the suspects on January 25, were armed in public without lawful possession in such a manner as to cause terror.
He also alleged that the suspects, while in eleven vehicles, did embark on unlawful procession from Ibadan, Oyo State, heading to Ado-Ekiti for the just-concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary.

He added that the suspects unlawfully have in their possession, two pump action guns, three locally-made pistols, six Dane guns, 98 cartridges, knives, cutlass and charm.
The police prosecutor noted that their offences contravene Sections 516, 80, 88 and Section 4 and are punishable under Section 27(b) (c) of Firearms Act Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Their counsels, Mr Odunayo Okunade, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde and Mr Chris Omokhafe, respectively, urged the court to grant them bail.
