CJN Swears-in FCT Chief Judge as Two Retires in Lagos

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has sworn-in Justice Salisu Garba as the substantive Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT

At the swearing-in ceremony in the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Muhammad advised the Chief Judge to discharge his duties with impartiality, fairness, justice, equity and to conduct his affairs within the ambit of the law.

He also said he would not condone any act of recklessness, abuse of power and public trust or misuse of opportunities from the new Chief Judge.

Justice Garba was appointed as the acting Chief Judge of the FCT High Court following the retirement of Justice Ishaq Bello from the position in January 2021.

Meanwhile, two judges of Lagos State High Court has retired from bench having attain the statutory age of 65

The judges are Justice Grace Onyeabo and Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo.

Justice Onyeabo, until her retirement, was the Administration Judge, Ikeja High Court.

However, Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo was said to have retired voluntarily on health grounds.

Similarly, about four other judges are in line of retirement in the state Judiciary.

It was learnt that both Justices Babajide Candide-Johnson and Iyabo Kasali, would be retiring this month, also on attaining statutory retirement age.

While Justice Owolabi Dabiri will be retiring in September, Justice Marian Olajumoke Emeya will be retiring from the bench of the Lagos Judiciary later in the year.

The development will deplete the number of serving judges of the Lagos bench from 61 to 56.
