The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully prosecuted Mr Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, an employee of the Nigeria Immigration Service, for perpetrating passport fraud.
Mr Adeyinka was brought before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, on four charges related to gratification, corrupt advantage, and cheating, contravening the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code Act.
During the trial, the ICPC’s counsel, Dr Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, presented evidence of how Mr Adeyinka defrauded Mr Ovie Justice Ojeffia by falsely promising to regularize Mr Ojeffia’s international passport in exchange for a payment of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira), which Mr Adeyinka failed to fulfil.
As a result of Mr Ojeffia’s petition to the ICPC, an investigation was initiated, leading to the prosecution of Mr Adeyinka.
In the judgement, Justice Onwuegbuzie found Mr Adeyinka guilty on all four counts and sentenced him to seven years for each of the first two counts, five years for the fourth count, and two years for the third count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
