Lagos State Magistrate Courts have jailed three men for separate incidents of vandalism targeting electricity infrastructure managed by Ikeja Electric.
The convictions, which occurred within days of each other in May, underscore the utility company’s ongoing collaboration with law enforcement to crack down on attacks against power facilities.
In the first case, Adegbite Jamiu was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu on May 5, 2025, after pleading guilty to conspiracy, unlawful damage, and theft involving a community transformer in Igboye.
He was caught following a tip-off from a vigilant resident who alerted police.
Two days later, on May 7, the Magistrate Court in Ogba handed down one-year jail terms to Jeremiah Chukwuemeka and Joshua Udeh.

The pair were convicted of stealing electricity cables from a transformer on Sobo Arobiodu Street, Ikeja GRA.
Arrested last August, they faced charges including conspiracy, stealing, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Commenting on the convictions, Ikeja Electric’s Chief Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Officer, Babatunde Osadare, described the rulings as a victory for the protection of vital public infrastructure.
He urged communities to remain alert and report criminal activity, warning against taking the law into their own hands.
“These outcomes send a clear message that acts of vandalism will not go unpunished,” Osadare said.
Ikeja Electric reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with security agencies and host communities to safeguard electricity assets and support stable power distribution across Lagos.
