Presidency: Politicians Should Forget EFCC Boss Removal

The Presidency has stated that politicians should disregard calls for the removal of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.

Despite calls from lawmakers and other politicians for Olukoyede’s suspension and possible removal due to allegations of financial improprieties against high-profile current and former public officeholders, President Bola Tinubu has remained committed to his campaign promises on fighting corruption.

The President has directed the Olukoyede-led anti-graft agency to focus on its achievements and effectively combat corruption, particularly as it impacts Nigeria’s reputation.

In response to appeals from members of his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and opposition parties, the President emphasized his plans to build a better nation with strong institutions like the EFCC that will serve both present and future generations.

An aide to the President, speaking on condition of anonymity, highlighted the administration’s focus on building a Nigeria where accountability is paramount and every citizen can access opportunities.

The President is aware of the allegations of financial improprieties against those advocating for Olukoyede’s removal and is supportive of the EFCC boss’s enforcement strategy, which aligns with the administration’s agenda.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released a statement asserting that the EFCC boss is fulfilling President Tinubu’s campaign promises.

Additionally, a female aide at the Aso Villa confirmed that the President is pleased with the EFCC’s approach to combating corruption, particularly in high-profile cases.

The EFCC has been actively prosecuting high-profile cases, including those involving the former governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, and the former governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku.

The EFCC boss’s dedication to the administration’s change agenda and commitment to rooting out corrupt officials has garnered the President’s strong support.

The President has consistently expressed his aversion to corruption and emphasized the importance of holding treasury looters accountable, a task that Olukoyede is effectively carrying out to the President’s satisfaction.
