Supreme Court Affirms Sanwo-olu as Lagos Governor Elect

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been affirmed by the Supreme Court as the winner of the election.

The tribunal and Appeal Court in the state had earlier upheld his victory.

The Labour Party candidate in the election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, claimed that Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, had renounced his Nigerian citizenship, which was the kernel of the case.

However, the court held that Sanwo-Olu’s deputy is a Nigerian by birth, and renunciation of citizenship must be registered by the Nigerian president.

The appellant failed to provide evidence to support his claim.

The appeal by the Labour Party candidate was dismissed by the court for lacking merit.

Abdulazeez Adediran, who is also known as Jandor and is a member of PDP, claimed that Sanwo-Olu used a different name on his WAEC certificate than the one he submitted to INEC.
