Lagos, Nigeria – The Managing Director and CEO of Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries, Dr. Stella Okoli, has called for stronger government support for local manufacturers, stressing that the sector holds the key to reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imports and stabilizing the economy.
Speaking during a media tour of Emzor’s manufacturing facility, Okoli emphasized the urgent need for policies that encourage indigenous industries to thrive.
She noted that while manufacturing is critical to national development, the government appears too preoccupied with other matters to offer substantial backing to local producers.
“Nigeria cannot continue to rely on imports for essential products like pharmaceuticals.
Producing locally will reduce the demand for the dollar in the pharmaceutical cycle, making drugs more affordable and accessible for Nigerians,” she stated.
Dr. Okoli highlighted the company’s commitment to tackling unemployment by creating opportunities for young graduates to thrive.

She stressed the importance of providing an environment where fresh graduates can gain hands-on experience and build sustainable careers immediately after schooling.
“We must create an enabling space for young talents to explore, learn, and contribute to the industry. If we don’t provide such opportunities, we risk losing our brightest minds to other countries,” she added.
On the issue of counterfeit drugs, Okoli reassured Nigerians that Emzor has an effective monitoring policy in place to safeguard its distribution network.
She emphasized that the company maintains strict quality control and has an airtight relationship with its distributors to prevent substandard products from infiltrating the market.
She urged stakeholders, including the government and private sector, to work together in strengthening Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry.
According to her, prioritizing local production would not only reduce dependence on imports but also ensure the availability of high-quality medicines for all Nigerians.
With over 40 years of operations in Nigeria, Emzor has established itself as a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer.
