Tensions Rise in Mushin as APC Aspirant Alleges Plot to Impose Candidate

A fresh wave of political unrest is brewing in Mushin Local Government Area as Haruna Olaitan Elegbede, an aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has petitioned the Lagos State Election Appeal Committee over what he describes as a “deliberate attempt to impose an unpopular candidate” in Ward C.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to Mr. Lawal Pedro, Chairman of the APC Election Appeal Committee, Elegbede accused key political figures like Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Mushin LG Chairman Hon. Emmanuel Bamgboye, LGA Party Chairman Alhaji Rafiu Shitta-Bey, and other party executives of orchestrating plans to subvert democratic processes in the ward ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

According to Elegbede, the alleged scheme involves stalling the announcement of an official candidate until the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) deadline passes, thereby leaving room to impose a handpicked aspirant without the input of grassroots party members.

“These leaders have consistently denied our people the right to choose credible and popular representatives,” he wrote.

“We categorically state that we shall resist all attempts to foist any unpopular candidate on our ward.”

Elegbede claimed to have the backing of over 2,000 youths and supporters across Ward C, vowing to mobilize resistance if the alleged manipulation continues.

“We are determined to grind the polity to a standstill until our desires are met,” he warned.

Despite his grievances, Elegbede reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, calling on the party leadership to intervene swiftly to protect its democratic ideals and prevent internal disaffection.

As the LASIEC deadline looms, political observers say the situation in Mushin could serve as a litmus test for the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and party discipline.

The party leadership has not yet responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
