The Community Court of Justice of ECOWAS has opened a three-day technical validation workshop in Nasarawa State to review and finalize its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030.
Declaring the workshop open, President of the Court, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Goncalves, underscored its importance, stressing that the exercise goes beyond fine-tuning a draft.
“This workshop is not simply about reviewing a document. It is about ensuring that this plan is realistic, practical, and implementable, with achievable steps that strengthen our ability to serve the Community,” he said.
Justice Goncalves described the five-year plan as a roadmap for judicial transformation across the region.
According to him, it aims to reduce delays in adjudication, improve enforcement of judgments, expand access to justice, and inspire greater confidence in the Court.

He called on staff to take ownership of the process and demonstrate commitment to its implementation.
Presenting the objectives and methodology, Dr. Olalekan Afolabi, Principal Officer, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, explained that the workshop seeks to align departmental priorities with the Court’s long-term vision.
He emphasised inclusiveness, institutional performance review, and measurable strategies as critical components of the planning process.
The Strategic Plan is anchored on five goals: delivering justice in a timely and effective manner, expanding access to justice, advancing human rights protection, strengthening institutional capacity, and enhancing transparency and accountability.
Participants include the Court’s leadership, directors, division heads, staff members, the consultant and his team, as well as a representative of the ECOWAS Commission.
Once validated, the plan will serve as the guiding framework for the Court’s operations between 2026 and 2030.
